Our materials arrived at the beginning of the school year and the students were so excited to see all the new farm toys, barn, farm animals and farm train and tractors. This has been a great motivator for students who are nervous about starting school and making new friends. I have two students who are second language learners and did not want to play with or near anyone else. When I brought out the farm and showed everyone all the animals and things that went with it, they both started playing with the barn. They were engaging with other students for the first time with the hands on materials. \r\n\r\nSeveral times I have had students who did not want to come in to the classroom until I reminded them that they could play with the farm toys or the Kinetic sand. They love being able to have the sensory experiences of sand, play doh and realistic toys. \r\nThere is a huge love of animals in TK and being able to have the barn, farm toys, farm animals, vehicles, farm magnets and farm Magna Tiles have been a huge hit. They are learning to take turns, sharing, communicating with others and showing lots of imaginative play. We received several farm books that we have read which led to them wanting to learn more about farms and farm animals. We have found other books and videos about them to learn more about them. We were lucky enough to get a big farm floor puzzle. They are so excited to work together to put it together and work as a team. It is so exciting to hear them talking to each other about the different parts of the puzzle and how they should put them together with teamwork. They put it together and then instantly take it apart and start over again multiple times in a row.\r\n\r\nMy students are so excited about all of the farm materials we received thanks to all of our generous donations. It has been so amazing to see their imagination come alive through play. They are very curious to learn more about farms. I will be teaching a farming unit to continue our learning about farm animals and other farming concepts. It's exciting to see 4-5 year olds explore and discover new things daily. It's wonderful to have the new toy farm, farm animals and farm train out and have my TK students jump right in. They have continued to learn to take turns, share, communicate with each other and develop some background knowledge about farming and farm animals. In TK, there is a love of animals especially among the neurodivergent students. I have taught a farming unit and found many fantastic farm themed books to share with my class. We also read some non fiction books about the various farm animals. Students know the different types of farm animals and their roles. I even handmade a silo out of an old coffee tumbler because many farms also grow crops/food and need storage. \r\nThe toys and materials donated to our TK class has definitely fostered imaginative play. It allows for meaningful connections and lasting knowledge that my TK students will remember as they journey through their education. My students have also used the paint markers by working on their names, numbers, the alphabet, shapes, etc. It has allowed for those students who are not that fond of picking up a pencil and writing their name, a more creative way to practice what they need to know in TK. Brightly colored paint is very appealing to TK students. \r\nMy students were so incredibly excited to receive all the new toys and materials. It's nice to see my TK students so busy, fully occupied and not want to go home because of the new toys. I rarely hear the words I'm bored.
