In a class of reluctant readers, we've noticed an increase in participation and interest.\r\n\r\nThe learning materials have enabled students to practice their reading skills through a variety of center activities. They have been actively engaged in educational games that help them build words and practice phonics at their own level.\r\n\r\nStudents have also been able to apply comprehension skills and strengthen their vocabulary in context. Beyond literacy skills, they have been developing social skills by taking turns, reading aloud, and participating in discussions.","fullyFundedDate":1760389345816,"projectUrl":"project/enhancing-literacy-skills-through-engagi/9823178/","projectTitle":"Enhancing Literacy Skills through Engaging Learning Centers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lowman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10310375"},{"teacherId":10311647,"projectId":9827702,"letterContent":"Your generous donation has transformed social studies class for my students. Instead of dryly written informational pieces, they have access to high quality reading materials that offer multiple viewpoints to historical events. They are able to consider life during colonial times and the American Revolution from the perspective of Loyalists, Patriots, women, children, enslaved persons, indigenous persons ... people from all walks of life. Instead of focusing on \"right\" and \"wrong\" they are able to consider cause and effect. Instead of concluding that someone is lying, they are able to consider that more than one thing can be true at the same time, and that our unique perspectives and experiences influence our point-of-view. \r\n\r\nMost importantly, the diversity of the perspectives and characters in the book collection allows an opportunity for all children to see themselves in some part of the curriculum. Putting books into the hands of young African American girls that feature outstanding African American women makes them feel empowered and hopeful. They are eager to learn more. Allowing students to learn more about people who are different than they are has led to deep, meaningful conversations and new friendships. I have children asking to read real books with their friends as a choice!","fullyFundedDate":1760571295289,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-hidden-history-to-life/9827702/","projectTitle":"Bringing Hidden History to Life","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carlson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10311647"},{"teacherId":4645410,"projectId":9828195,"letterContent":"Thanks to your support, reading time in our classroom has become even more exciting. The new books are helping students practice important comprehension skills like understanding what they read, learning new vocabulary, and thinking more deeply about characters and events. Students are learning how to ask questions, make connections, and talk about books in meaningful ways—all while enjoying stories that feel fun and interesting to them.\r\nReading in our classroom is hands-on and social. Students read on their own, with a partner, and in small groups, and they love stopping to turn and talk about what's happening in the story. Having more books to choose from has made a big difference—students are more eager to read and more willing to challenge themselves.\r\nSome of my most reluctant readers have been the most excited about the new books. I've seen students who used to avoid reading time now asking to read \"just one more chapter.\" Other students are diving into discussions and proudly sharing their favorite parts. These moments show how powerful it is when kids have access to books they connect with.\r\nThank you for helping make reading something our students look forward to every day.
