My students spend majority of their day sitting at a desk in chairs. That is a hard task for little first graders with a lot of energy! Having a variety of seating around the classroom will allow students to find what type of seating they need to stay calm and what will help them succeed in the classroom. The rug, wobble cushions and beanbag chairs will provide an opportunity for students to read and explore new worlds through literature! They will get a 'break' from sitting at a desk and will be able to relax in a beanbag chair or on the rug to read with friends. This current year they had to return to their seats or sit on the hard floor while reading. I want to encourage my students to use the library and I believe these chairs, cushions and the rug will aide in that. The stools will provide seating around the small group table and the computers. This will encourage students to sit up tall while working which will help their posture and strengthen their core. This will also help in the development of their gross motor skills.
