Watching my second graders discover knitting has been such a joyful experience. The first day we brought out the yarn and knitting supplies, the room was filled with excitement, curiosity, and lots of happy smiles. Many students had never held knitting needles before, but they were eager to learn something completely new. It has been incredible to watch them encourage one another, celebrate each new stitch, and proudly say, \"I did it!\"\r\n\r\nOur knitting time has become so much more than a craft. Students are building patience, perseverance, fine motor skills, and confidence as they practice. They are learning that mistakes are simply part of the process and that with determination, they can master something that once felt impossible. One of my favorite moments was watching students who were struggling become the very classmates helping others after they gained confidence themselves. The pride on their faces when they completed their first rows was priceless.\r\n\r\nAs we continue learning, students will begin creating simple projects they can take home and treasure. They are already brainstorming gifts they hope to make for family members and talking about continuing to knit outside of school.
