Our younger students have explored creativity and fine motor skills using playdough and building with LEGOs, while older students have applied problem-solving and engineering skills through activities like creating moon dough, participating in a balloon race experiment to explore force and motion, building the tallest towers using notecards, and designing the strongest bridges with popsicle sticks. \r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate and contagious! Students were eager to dive in, asking questions, making predictions, and brainstorming ideas before we even began. There was a sense of curiosity and joy as they explored the supplies, and many students who are typically more reserved became fully engaged through these hands-on experiences.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, our next steps include building on these foundational STEAM skills by incorporating more structured design challenges and integrating science and math standards more deeply into each project. Students will begin documenting their thinking through simple engineering journals, reflecting on what worked, what didn't, and how they can improve. We are also planning collaborative group challenges that encourage communication and critical thinking, helping our students continue to grow as innovative problem-solvers.
