The game also provides opportunities to practice following directions, counting, taking turns, and participating in a structured activity.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw Pop the Pig, they were immediately excited and eager to play. Their excitement made it much easier to encourage participation and practice skills that can sometimes feel challenging. These moments have created meaningful opportunities to work on social skills, patience, emotional regulation, and positive peer interactions.\r\n\r\nAs we continue using all of the supplies donated for our OT sessions, students will build on their skills. The technology and materials have helped make my computer classroom a place where students can become creators, problem-solvers, engineers, and scientists.\r\n\r\nThe 3D printer has been especially exciting for students because they can take an idea from their imagination and turn it into a physical object they can hold. Students learn how to use digital design tools, think about measurements and shapes, and understand how their designs need to be created before they can be printed. They experience the engineering design process by designing, printing, testing, identifying problems, making changes, and trying again. This teaches students that mistakes are not failures; they are opportunities to improve a design. The Kingroon PLA and JAYO Silk Rainbow PLA filament give students the materials needed to bring their creations to life while allowing them to explore color, design, and creativity.\r\n\r\nThe science materials have also created excitement and curiosity. The Steve Spangler Geyser Tube Event Pack and Mentos allow students to participate in an experiment rather than simply watching a demonstration. Students make predictions, observe what happens, discuss results, and think about why the reaction occurred. These experiences encourage students to ask questions and become curious about how and why things work.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding parts of this project has been seeing students who may not always consider themselves \"technology students\" become excited about STEM. Students who enjoy drawing and creating can use the 3D printer to turn their artwork and ideas into objects. Students who enjoy building can think like engineers and test different solutions. Students who are naturally curious can use the science experiments to make predictions and investigate the results. Working together also gives students opportunities to practice communication, collaboration, patience, and problem-solving.\r\n\r\nThe technology is helping students understand that computers are not just tools for playing games or completing assignments. Computers can be used to design, invent, create, solve problems, and prepare students for future careers. Students are beginning to see themselves as capable creators of technology rather than simply consumers of it.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these materials have helped create memorable learning experiences. When students see their own design successfully printed or watch a science experiment produce an unexpected result, their excitement is immediate. They want to know what they can create next, what they can change, and what will happen if they try something different. Team members have notebooks for taking notes. We read reader's theater for some books. There are quizzes and jeopardy games for some of the books. We play games and do activities to remember the details in the books. \r\n In March the battles begin. Two teams will go against each other in two preliminary rounds. At the end of those two rounds the scores are totaled and the top four teams compete in the semi finals. The two teams that come out on top play against each other in an assembly. The winner of that round represents our school at the regional battle. There is also a district wide battle. \r\n Many students have participated over the years and truly enjoyed spending time reading and discussing books together.
