Using the resources you provided, students participated in a class giving project focused on helping others in need. They worked together to organize, prepare, and reflect on donated items, discussing who might receive them and how these small acts of kindness could make a difference. One especially memorable moment was watching students carefully sort items while having thoughtful conversations about gratitude, empathy, and the importance of helping those around us.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement quickly turned into purpose. Many immediately asked questions about who would benefit and how they could help more. Several students shared personal experiences about times when kindness made a difference in their own lives, while others expressed pride in being able to give back. For some, this was their first experience participating in a service project, and they took it seriously—showing responsibility, teamwork, and genuine care. I was especially moved by how students encouraged one another to be thoughtful and respectful throughout the process. The resources you provided became the foundation for a rich learning experience that blended social studies, literacy, art, and meaningful classroom conversations. Your support helped transform our classroom into a place of curiosity, respect, and celebration of global traditions.\r\n\r\nWe used the materials to learn how Lunar New Year is celebrated across different countries, including China, Vietnam, Korea, and beyond. Students rotated through learning stations where they explored traditions, symbols, foods, and stories connected to the holiday. One particularly memorable project was when students created their own informational displays highlighting a specific country's Lunar New Year traditions. They researched customs, practiced summarizing key ideas, and presented their findings to classmates. These resources helped students visualize the celebration and truly understand its significance, making learning engaging and accessible for all.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. Many were drawn to the vibrant colors, symbols, and hands-on elements, and several students shared personal connections to the holiday that they had never spoken about before. Others were eager to ask questions and compare Lunar New Year traditions to celebrations they already knew. The classroom buzzed with curiosity and enthusiasm, and students who are sometimes hesitant to participate were eager to join discussions. It was powerful to see how quickly the materials sparked both excitement and deeper understanding.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, students also gained a greater appreciation for cultural diversity and global perspectives. They practiced respectful discussion, learned new vocabulary, and reflected on how traditions help bring families and communities together. Having a ChompSaw has been so fun! I'm not sure who was more excited, me or the students to try it out! It makes cutting cardboard so much easier and faster. The kids, especially the boys, have been so excited to use a \"power tool\" at school. They take turns and have even helped a few of the girls in their classes try it out. It was neat to see the team work happening! \r\n\r\nFor our first project using the ChompSaw I helped the students to create a mini 3D ghost sculpture. I had measured rectangles on cardboard and after showing one or two students how to use the ChompSaw, I gave them freedom to help those interested take turns cutting up the pile of cardboard. The students each got a small and large rectangle and a couple pieces of egg carton. The two rectangles where glued together and and painted with acrylic paint. The egg carton made the ghost and a pumpkin, hat, or flower.\r\n\r\nMy students had a blast using the ChompSaw and creating their ghost sculptures! We've discussed how ordinary people (or hobbits!) can rise to extraordinary challenges, and students have connected those lessons to their own lives. Through our reading, we've practiced essential skills such as summarizing chapters, analyzing character traits, building rich vocabulary, and making predictions based on context clues.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now feels like stepping into Middle-earth.
