Your contribution helped make our first March Madness Picture Book competition possible. The books purchased with your donation were all fresh, new, and high-quality, drawing the students' attention immediately.\r\n \r\nDuring the program, I read two picture books per class time, and the students voted on their favorite book. It was fascinating to hear their discussions about the illustrations and stories in these new books. There were \"oohs\" that spontaneously erupted with certain turns of a page, and \"awws\" when something sweet happened in the storyline. It was plain to see the kids were really engaged with these new books. As the month progressed, they were excited to see which book had been the winner the week before and to explore the new book added to the competition. \r\n\r\nOverall, the March Madness program was enjoyed by all and was definitely a success! We will certainly continue this tradition as a way to introduce newly published picture books. The students here at Wakefield Elementary greatly appreciate your support, as do I. Your support has had a meaningful and lasting impact on both my students and my instructional practices. Because of your kindness, I was able to thoughtfully organize, expand, and enrich my classroom library, creating a more engaging and inclusive learning environment for all students.\r\n\r\nThe books purchased through your donations are used daily during both small-group instruction and independent reading time. Having access to a wider variety of texts has allowed me to better meet the diverse academic and linguistic needs of my students. During small-group instruction, the lower-leveled books—particularly those featuring clear visuals and simple, one-word text—have been especially valuable. These resources allow me to effectively support emerging readers while also providing meaningful opportunities for language development.\r\n\r\nIn particular, these books have enabled me to translanguage with my English as a Second Language (ESL) students. By intentionally incorporating both English and students' home languages into instruction, I am able to build comprehension, confidence, and a stronger connection to learning. The visual supports and accessible text make it possible for students to participate fully in lessons while developing foundational literacy skills. One of the most rewarding outcomes has been the joy students express during these moments; they take great pride in teaching me Spanish and sharing their language with their peers. These exchanges foster mutual respect, strengthen relationships, and validate students' cultural and linguistic identities.","fullyFundedDate":1757354040312,"projectUrl":"project/reading-the-foundation-to-everything/9512503/","projectTitle":"Reading - The Foundation to Everything","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Stegner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9203094_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692542368598","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/astegnerwes"},{"teacherId":7588721,"projectId":9612041,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our classroom reading project! Because of your support, our students now have new tools and resources that make reading time more engaging, meaningful, and joyful.\r\n\r\nThe reading buddy plush characters have quickly become a classroom favorite. Students love choosing a buddy to sit with during reading time — it gives them a sense of comfort, focus, and excitement as they practice their reading skills. Having a special reading partner helps build confidence and encourages students to read more often, both in class and at home.\r\n\r\nIn addition to these wonderful student resources, the two professional books included in this project are helping me grow as an educator. These books provide strategies for strengthening reading fluency, comprehension, and motivation — all of which directly support our students' literacy development. By implementing the ideas and best practices from these professional texts, I'm able to create even more effective reading lessons and provide targeted support for students at all levels.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has truly made a lasting difference in our classroom.
