With the funded materials—including ceramic tools and high-quality glaze—our students were able to design and create life-size ceramic mosaics of native Hawaiian animals. These resources allowed them to work with real artist-grade materials, elevating both the quality of their work and their pride in what they were creating.\r\n\r\nThis project also gave students a meaningful opportunity to contribute to our community. Their mosaics will become part of educational signage at Kaiwi Coast Scenic Shoreline and Kaʻena State Park, where visitors will learn about the native species our students worked so hard to portray. With this printer I was able to print a set of geometry manipulatives. We used them in a fun group activity where students categorized shapes by their attributes. Students also tend to struggle with volume. With this new printer we could make 3d models of compound shapes that the students were able to measure and find volume in an authentic situation. \r\n\r\nThis printer was also used to make parts for an engineering project. The new books and calming stuffed animals have made a remarkable difference in how my students experience reading each day.\r\n\r\nMany of our donors love to read (we do, too!), but may not always see the behind-the-scenes work that goes into helping young readers grow. With the addition of these new texts, students are practicing important skills such as identifying story elements, making predictions, expanding vocabulary, and building reading stamina. Several of the books also lend themselves beautifully to social-emotional lessons—like recognizing feelings, understanding empathy, and connecting with characters—which has been especially impactful when paired with the calming stuffed animals.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading time has become a peaceful, inviting ritual. Students choose a cozy spot, often with a stuffed animal by their side, and dive into their books with a level of focus and comfort I hadn't seen before. The stuffed animals have helped create a sense of emotional safety, allowing students to settle in more quickly and engage more deeply with their reading.\r\n\r\nSome students who once struggled to stay focused during independent reading are now among the most enthusiastic participants. One student in particular, who often felt anxious during quiet work time, now begins reading by hugging a stuffed animal and proudly shares what they've discovered in their book. Another student who had difficulty choosing books now eagerly explores the new titles, excited to find stories that match their interests.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has done more than provide classroom materials—it has given my students tools for confidence, calm, and curiosity.
