We have been making use of all of the materials and my students were so excited about the new opportunities they provided. We are working with a local elementary school to find a time when students can come over and learn from our students in the garden and have a book read to them. We have also started a lot of seeds, including the sunflowers. It's been hot here in Southern California for the past several weeks so we kicked them off in the classroom with our seedling started paper and some plastic tray tops the cafeteria wasn't using. Students got to see their seeds sprout and push the covers off the tops as their cotyledon's kicked out!! It was fun to see high schoolers awe and wonder about a seed.\r\n\r\nWe have cleaned up our gardens from the summer over growth and are now putting our sprouted seeds in. We hope to have a strong fall harvest to send home with students for their holiday meals. As a speech-language pathologist, I support students with various learning disabilities that impact their education skills. I work with students who stutter, have expressive or receptive language impairments, use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices, or struggle with social language. Your donations have provided engaging and fun opportunities for my students to practice their individualized speech goals and improve their overall communication abilities. Aside from the small inventory of material provided by my district's speech department, I use my own money to purchase or create speech therapy materials, games, visual supports, handouts, lessons, and art supplies for my sessions with students. Your donations have helped contribute to the speech classroom material collection that will be used by students for many years.\r\n\r\nI am lucky to have a Smart Board in my classroom and with the donated Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT) gift card, I was able to purchase \"Virtual Vacations,\" digital speech therapy material to transport students to other places around the world. My students have loved taking \"virtual field trips\" to learn about the Grand Canyon, Maui, Yellowstone, Paris and DC while also practicing language, conversation, and communication skills. A few of my students have expressed wanting to visit these places in person. I also purchased \"Speech Therapy Push in Group Activities Self Contained Classrooms\" TPT material that has allowed me to incorporate novel and exciting AAC and functional communication activities for my students earning a modified diploma. They've enjoyed the interactive activities and lessons on different topics from this material: Lunar Chinese New Year, Earth Day, shamrocks, and Black Inventors for Black History Month. This process builds problem-solving skills, creativity, and perseverance, while also helping students understand how math, science, and engineering work together in real-world applications.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is seeing their ideas come to life. Being able to design a part on the computer and then watch it print into a physical object is incredibly motivating. The 3D printer also allows students to make fast design changes, which is critical during competition season. Because of this, our team was able to quickly redesign and improve parts and team 22813 earned 1st place at our first robotics meet.
