Every Friday, students get to celebrate their hard work and positive behavior by selecting a special prize from our treasure chest. Seeing their faces light up when they first discovered the new items was unforgettable. Some students could hardly wait to show their classmates their selections. The treasure chest has quickly become a highlight of our week, and it has created a positive, joyful way to recognize effort, cooperation, and kindness.\r\n\r\nStudents are using the new resources in creative and meaningful ways. Some carefully plan how to earn treasure chest rewards, setting personal goals and reflecting on their behavior. Others share their prizes with friends or use them during free choice activities, which encourages social skills and cooperative play. It has also sparked classroom discussions about making good choices, helping others, and being responsible, lessons that extend beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to continue using the treasure chest to reinforce positive behavior and to expand it with new items that connect to our learning themes and student interests. Students are already asking questions and making suggestions for future prizes, showing their engagement and excitement. Your generous support has helped create a classroom culture where students feel recognized, motivated, and proud of their achievements. With these new texts, my young learners are developing foundational reading skills such as concepts of print, understanding how books work, identifying letters, retelling events, and building vocabulary. During small group lessons, students explore books through guided book browsing, practicing turning pages, making predictions, and identifying characters. Our interactive read alouds have become richer as students listen to a wide variety of stories, ask questions, and make connections to their own lives. These moments are essential for helping them grow into confident readers.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now feels joyful, meaningful, and inclusive. Students eagerly visit our classroom library during center time, selecting books that reflect their interests, cultures, and experiences. Several students who were previously hesitant are now fully engaged, acting out favorite scenes, retelling stories with expression, and sharing books proudly with their classmates. One of the most powerful outcomes has been watching them see themselves and their peers represented in the stories. This representation has strengthened their emotional connection to reading and sparked thoughtful conversations. Your generous support did more than provide books. It helped create a warm, vibrant reading community where every child feels seen, valued, and excited to learn. Thank you for making such a lasting difference for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1760191937572,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-love-for-reading-with-familia/9807123/","projectTitle":"Building a Love for Reading With Familiar and Diverse Stories","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Morris","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10305638"},{"teacherId":7825324,"projectId":8397224,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation of seat sacks for our kindergarten classroom! Your generosity came at the perfect time, as our classroom was beginning to feel overcrowded and difficult to manage with our growing number of students. Because of your support, we now have plastic storage bins, book bins, and stackable baskets that have brought much-needed order and structure to our space.\r\n\r\nThese organizational tools have made a huge impact on both student learning and classroom management. With clearly labeled baskets and bins, students now know exactly where to find and return materials, which allows for smoother transitions between activities and more time focused on learning. Our newly organized classroom library is helping students choose books at their reading level more independently, and the subject-separated bins have made morning work time more efficient and less chaotic.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, the improved organization has created a more calm, predictable environment where students feel confident, responsible, and ready to learn. We had been in need of newer materials to work with in class as multiple sets showed more wear and tear as the days passed in class. With your donation, we were able to replace over half of the older boards in class with the newer, beginner friendly chess sets.\r\n\r\nMy students were very appreciative of their new materials, and were excited to use them. My 2nd graders had the privilege of being the first students to open the new chess sets and play on the new chess mat. They got to clear the room and spread out the giant chess mat during one class period. They did not even want to walk on the mat because they were afraid they would get it dirty. With assurance that it was fine, they slowly made full use of the mat and it's pieces. Several students also asked to view the books we received to look at the puzzles and challenge themselves to solving them.\r\n\r\nI appreciate all of your help and look forward to partnering again with you all in the future.","fullyFundedDate":1722526120986,"projectUrl":"project/promoting-just-got-easier/8472541/","projectTitle":"\"Promoting\" Just Got Easier!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Carter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8825148_orig.jpg?crop=827,827,x0,y22&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1672948486377","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8825148"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_49356","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":496,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":96,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.8,"schoolId":49356,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Thomas Slater Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Thomas Slater Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/atlanta-public-schools/thomas-slater-elementary-school/49356"}
