The safety glasses are a must, even when we are doing basic operations with hand tools or running power through the motors, and it has been great to see students automatically reaching for them as part of their routine. The robotics club is already hard at work building a competition robot for later this season, and they've been using the Dremel, vise, cordless screwdriver, and full tool kit to create custom parts, smooth edges, and make precise adjustments that simply weren't possible before.\r\n\r\nIn class, we are taking time to ensure every student learns how to operate each power tool safely and responsibly. Students are practicing how to secure pieces in the vise, choose the correct bit, and work slowly and confidently with the rotary tool. It has raised the level of professionalism and pride in the room—students feel like true engineers because they finally have the right equipment. These resources are already shaping the quality of their work and the safety of our space, and they will continue to make a meaningful difference throughout the year.\r\n\r\nIn robotics this year, we have built robots to play a game of freeze tag and a competitive soccer game for robot teams. Later this year, we will build a search and rescue robot and challenge the students to remotely operate their robots to save a stuffed animal trapped in the rubble.","fullyFundedDate":1716910788651,"projectUrl":"project/tools-to-open-doors-of-design-for-robots/8418581/","projectTitle":"Tools to Open Doors of Design for Robots","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Jacobson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3363940_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1449939385554","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3363940"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_39944","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":738,"numTeachers":38,"percentFrplEligible":29,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":63,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":25,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"19.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":39944,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Templeton High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Templeton High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/templeton-unified-school-district/templeton-high-school/39944"}
