Instead of having loose papers that can easily get lost, students are creating their own math resource that will continue to grow throughout the year.\r\n\r\nThe pencil toppers and colorful erasers were an immediate favorite! My students were so excited when they saw them. I have been able to use these small rewards to recognize effort, participation, improvement, and perseverance. Sometimes a fun pencil topper is all it takes to make a fifth grader light up and feel proud of their hard work!\r\n\r\nAs we move into more challenging fifth-grade math concepts, students will continue adding strategies, examples, models, and reflections to their notebooks. My goal is for these notebooks to become a resource students can independently turn to when they need help—and eventually a record of just how much they have learned and grown.\r\n\r\nThese materials have allowed me to spend more time focusing on teaching and learning while also helping my students develop independence, organization, and confidence.
