We launched our IB unit about insects and my kindergarten students have been so curious to learn more about insects by observing them carefully under this microscope. This has also instilled in them a motivation about research skills, and they document their observations through their drawings.\r\n\r\nAlso, the magnet letter trays and the touch and feel CVC word reading cards have really proven to be a game changer for my intervention kids. Students love getting their prizes each week for making their Lexia goals! They choose stickers for meeting their weekly goals and a prize from the prize box leveling up. Students also love the new books added to our library. I place them in the display case and they immediately are picked by students to read. They get passed from student to student. Of course supplies like the electric pencil sharpener are invaluable. It is quick and easy to use. Finally we used the chart paper all up! (Other books purchased will be used in subsequent units of inquiry.)\r\n\r\nThrough No Ballet Shoes in Syria, students are exploring empathy and resilience while learning to infer characters' feelings and motivations based on their thoughts and actions. Efren Divided has sparked deep conversations about family, identity, and courage, helping students connect to themes of belonging and justice. With I Survived the Children's Blizzard, readers are practicing visualization, sequencing, and identifying cause-and-effect relationships while learning about historical events through an engaging narrative.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is interactive, joyful, and reflective. Students read in small groups, discuss their thinking, and use sticky notes to track evidence that supports their ideas. We've been incorporating the new seating into our daily routines—students can now choose where they feel most comfortable to learn, whether it's on a wobble stool for focused writing time or a floor cushion during small-group reading. One of my favorite moments so far was during our identity writing unit. Students spread out across the room, some sitting cross-legged with clipboards and others rocking gently on their stools. The new setup created a calm, focused atmosphere that really supported their creativity.\r\n\r\nThe students' reaction when they first saw the materials was priceless. Their eyes lit up, and they immediately started pointing to the spots they wanted to try. There was a lot of excitement and curiosity as they tested out each option, sharing with one another which seat they liked best. Several students mentioned how much easier it was to stay focused and comfortable compared to sitting in a traditional chair all day.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll continue to use the flexible seating to support collaborative projects. In our upcoming social studies unit, students will work in research teams to learn about different cultural celebrations. The flexible seating will give them the freedom to move around, meet with their groups in cozy corners, and share their findings in a more dynamic way.
