The small stuffed animals have quickly become our classroom pets and are used during independent work time. Students are motivated to listen and follow expectations because they know that students who are on task get to choose a pet first, which has made a positive impact on behavior. The bean bag chair is a favorite reward—our Star Student of the Week gets to trade their regular chair for the bean bag, which makes the recognition extra special. The classroom bench has been one of our most-used items because it stores our manipulatives and doubles as seating during small-group activities. The whiteboards are perfect for games, reviews, and quick checks for understanding, and the large whiteboard easel is used daily during both whole-group and small-group instruction. The headphones are especially important, as they are used every day by students who are unable to afford their own or replace broken ones.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials and were able to use them, their reactions were priceless. They were beyond excited and could not stop smiling. The biggest reactions were to the desk pets and headphones—it felt to them like hundreds of dollars had been spent just for them. Many students kept saying, \"Thank you for making our classroom a better place,\" which truly showed how much these resources mean to them.\r\n\r\nIn the coming weeks, we will continue to use these materials to support learning and engagement. Our classroom pets will be \"writing\" letters to students and to each other as a fun way to prepare for upcoming diagnostic testing. Students will write encouraging notes and practice writing skills while building confidence and excitement for testing. The headphones were already heavily used during our Black History Month research project and will continue to support independent learning moving forward. Because of your generosity, my students feel supported, excited, and ready to learn every single day. Thank you for helping create such a positive classroom environment.","fullyFundedDate":1768052588219,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-calm-engaging-classroom/9988977/","projectTitle":"Creating a Calm, Engaging Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10398544"},{"teacherId":7695708,"projectId":9988781,"letterContent":"We are using the new resources during Junk Journal Club and classroom creative time, where students create personalized journal spreads using a variety of materials. They were amazed by the variety of supplies and couldn't wait to dive in, especially students who had never had access to these kinds of creative materials before.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue building their journals through open-ended spreads connected to reflection, character exploration, and storytelling.
