My third graders don't have a specific instrument they learn. For example, fourth graders learn the recorder, fifth and sixth graders learn the ukulele. The third graders were able to use the keyboards last week and they thought it was the coolest thing ever.\r\n\r\nWhen they first came into my classroom and saw the keyboards, they were visibly excited. Many students are in piano lessons and couldn't wait to show their piano skills to the class. I gave them the assignment to create a tune to a rhythm we had learned. They were able to play around on the keyboard to find something they liked. Then we talked about tips to making a singable song. They went back and modified their song to make it even better.\r\n\r\nI am so excited to continue working with these keyboards throughout the year with third grade, as well as many other grades. They are going to be so vital to my teaching for many years to come. One will be to bring our mascot, a dragon, to life using School AI. I will print and display these. Our social studies is mostly about being a good citizen. So, students do a job fair.
