My students have been in the middle of a pandemic since first grade! As we returned to learn the past two years I have seen how this has greatly affected their social-emotional well-being. By funding my project my students will receive various items that will support their mental health and growth in managing the stresses of these times. My students will receive books and discussion cards that will aid in our discussions during our morning meeting. They will receive flexible seating which will allow them more control over their learning in the classroom. They will also receive items like fidgets and STEM activities so I can create a calm-down corner in my classroom. The STEM activities will also be used to increase their social skills during times like indoor recess. Each of these items will support their SEL.
Another area that my classroom is in desperate need of is having working headphones. During a time of online testing, digital learning days, and learning programs like Lexia. I want my students to have working headphones that will allow them to focus on their computers and the various digital activities that are assigned to them. These activities are important in supporting my students academic learning.
Finally, students in my classroom participate in math centers that help to fill in the gaps that COVID-19 has caused in their learning. Many times having manipulatives allows my students to use their senses to deepen their learning of the material. There are several manipulatives listed on my project that will support students in filling the academic gap they are all facing.
Overall, my students deserve to have these supports in the classroom so I can help them in all areas of their life. I appreciate your support in providing donations to help my students.
