The iPad and protective case have already made a tremendous impact on my Pre-K students during their occupational therapy sessions.\r\n\r\nMany of my students are still developing foundational communication, fine-motor, and sensory-motor skills. While many donors may be familiar with using technology at home, its purpose in the classroom, especially in OT can look very different. The iPad has become a powerful therapeutic tool that bridges communication gaps, increases engagement, and allows students to participate more meaningfully in their sessions.\r\n\r\nThe iPad allows my students to use visual schedules, AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) apps, fine-motor games, and interactive learning tools that support each individual goals. For students who struggle to verbally express their wants and needs, having access to simple communication buttons or picture-based choices empowers them to have a voice during OT. \r\n\r\nSeveral of my non-verbal and minimally verbal students have truly blossomed since we introduced the iPad. One child who rarely initiated communication in the past now uses simple AAC icons during sessions to request a turn, choose an activity, or ask for help. Another student with sensory and attentional challenges has shown improved focus and regulation when using visual-motor apps designed to support fine-motor control. \r\n\r\nThanks to this project, my students now have another avenue to express themselves, engage with their environment, and build the foundational skills they need for school participation. The 3-sided chair offers a cozy, secure space for children who benefit from gentle boundaries, while the colorful chair brings an inviting touch that encourages participation. The puzzle floor mat has become a favorite spot for interactive play and language-building activities, combining movement with learning in a way that engages all of my students.\r\n\r\nMost of my students have special needs and rely on sensory supports and visuals to communicate and learn effectively. These resources have already made a tremendous difference. The cube chair and mats help create a safe and structured space for students to sit and focus. The sensory and fidget toys have become essential tools to help my students regulate their bodies and emotions so they can fully participate in our sessions.\r\n\r\nWith these new materials, my students are more motivated and engaged during speech therapy. We've been using them during a variety of activities like reading books, doing crafts, following directions, and structured play. The children were so excited when we opened the box—there were lots of wide eyes, curious questions, and big smiles. Right away, they started thinking of ways to use it to make special gifts for the people in our community.\r\nWith your help, we started a project called Creating Kindness. Our preschoolers chose special helpers in our community to thank them for all they do. The children helped design and decorate thank-you cards, bookmarks, and small gifts like water bottles using the Cricut. They loved picking out shapes and colors and watching the machine \"magically\" cut out their designs! Each visit to deliver these handmade gifts has been a joyful adventure. The children practiced saying thank you and even shared why they wanted to be kind.\r\nThis project is teaching our preschoolers so much—how to be thoughtful, how to work together, and how to use their creativity to make a difference. Since receiving the room dividers, write-and-wipe magnetic board, and balance ball chairs, my Pre-K OT students have jumped into their learning with even more focus and joy. Recently, I set up a writing activity at the magnetic board while the space dividers reduced visual distractions, so students can now stay more engaged, and one child proudly wrote his first name independently; something he struggled to do on a desk surface before. The balance ball chairs have also made an immediate difference: students who used to shift or stand during desk tasks now remain seated more comfortably and with improved posture, letting us work on handwriting, scissor use, and coloring skills for extended periods.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the energy in the room felt more focused, even playful, while still getting things done. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will continue integrating these tools into both OT and classroom routines. I plan to rotate small group \"stations\" using the magnetic board for letter/number matching, the ball chairs for seated fine motor tasks, and the dividers to create calm corners for children who need breaks. My next goal is to fade assistance gradually so students become more independent in self-care, play, and academic fine motor tasks.
