We use the shredder daily to process confidential classroom and school documents, turning a routine task into a structured service-learning opportunity. One standout moment was when students organized their first \"shredding day,\" rotating through roles like intake, sorting, shredding, and quality checks. They practiced teamwork, followed safety procedures, and celebrated when bins were filled and ready for recycling—seeing their work make an immediate impact was incredibly motivating.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the shredder, their excitement was contagious. They gathered around as we reviewed safety guidelines and watched the first sheets go through, cheering as the paper transformed into neat strips. Many students expressed how \"official\" and important the work felt, especially knowing they were trusted with real documents. That initial excitement quickly turned into focus and responsibility as they learned to operate the machine correctly and support one another.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our next steps include expanding the service to more classrooms and tracking productivity as part of our current lesson on workplace skills. Students are learning to set goals, record output, and reflect on efficiency and teamwork. We're also exploring ways to reuse the shredded paper for eco-friendly projects, connecting our work to lessons on sustainability. Students are now attempting challenging problems they would have previously ignored, and they're persevering through difficult concepts even when frustration sets in. \r\nTheir test scores have improved because of the effort they're now willing to put in, and more importantly, they're building the resilience and work ethic that will serve them far beyond algebra.\r\nMy students' faces lit up when they saw the variety of treats they could earn for completing algebra assignments and showing improvement. What started as excitement about snacks quickly became pride in their mathematical abilities.\r\nOur next steps are to continue building on this momentum. This project supports approximately 50 students at Edison Career and Technology High School who have recently arrived from all over the world. For many of them, learning English is only one of the challenges they face—they are also adjusting to a new country, new routines, and even new expectations around daily life, including hygiene.\r\nOne of my favorite moments was when we opened the box of hygiene kits together. Their faces lit up with surprise and relief—several students immediately said, \"Thank you, Ms!\" These simple items helped them feel welcomed, cared for, and more confident as they started the new school year. It reassured them that they belong and that their needs matter.\r\nNext, our students will continue building on these first steps in our newcomer orientation program, which not only teaches English but also helps them navigate cultural expectations, school systems, and daily routines. With these resources, they can focus more on learning, connecting with their peers, and preparing for success both in school and beyond.\r\nThank you for giving them the tools to feel at home in their new community and the confidence to thrive. The donation was made possible because of donor's like you! This hardware has fundamentally transformed how my high school computer science students engage with coding concepts. Instead of simply viewing lines of Python or block code on a screen, they now see their logic instantly translated into physical action. This tactile, cause-and-effect loop allows students to immediately debug, iterate, and truly master abstract concepts like loops, conditional statements, and complex algorithms as they manipulate the robots' movements and reactions in real-time. The ability to physically test and refine their programs has deepened their conceptual understanding far more effectively than just examining a line of code and looking at an output on the screen.\r\nThe component that has generated the most excitement is undoubtedly the ability to control the arm of a catapult using a TV remote! Seeing their code successfully make the RVR catapult throw the pom-pom is an immediate, visible reward that abstract coding projects often lack. This hands-on experience is critically different from screen-based learning because it introduces real-world variables—distance, speed, momentum, friction, battery levels, and unexpected physical behaviors—that demand genuine engineering troubleshooting skills. Students are learning not just to code perfectly, but to code robustly, managing errors and adapting their software to imperfect hardware, which is the exact challenge they will face in future technology and engineering careers. Thank you for investing in this powerful and engaging educational opportunity for our future innovators.","fullyFundedDate":1746889840811,"projectUrl":"project/sphero-bolt-for-learning-javascript/9056938/","projectTitle":"Sphero Bolt+ for Learning Javascript","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Cody","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6881273_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1572352996681","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6881273"},{"teacherId":9823464,"projectId":8914821,"letterContent":"I just want to take a moment to thank you for your generosity!
