The 3D printer has made a meaningful difference in our classroom by helping students connect their effort, creativity, and learning to something they can actually see and hold. While many people may think of 3D printing as just making objects, in school it has become a tool for motivation, problem-solving, and celebrating student growth. Students are not only excited by the finished products, but also by the process of planning, improving, and seeing their ideas come to life.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting for students is the opportunity to turn their progress into something visible. Whether they are creating useful tools, puzzles, or small toys, the 3D printer helps make their hard work feel real and rewarding. It has become a strong incentive for students to stay focused, keep trying, and take pride in their accomplishments. Even small achievements feel important when students can see the results of their effort in a tangible way.","fullyFundedDate":1750532787610,"projectUrl":"project/print-and-inspire/9372738/","projectTitle":"Print and Inspire","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Enrique","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10041407"},{"teacherId":10341172,"projectId":9873966,"letterContent":"I would like to take this time to thank you for your generous donation of a classroom iPad for me to model for my students. For example, if we are doing math, I can have students come up and use the iPad as it's being screen shared to the TV and it allows all of the students are able to participate and have a visual. \r\nI am also able to model how to navigate different apps on the iPad. It is so organized and ready to use, the case is packed with grapheme magnets color-coded into categories—from vowels and consonants to digraphs that have made making words during our UFLY lessons so much more engaging. The write & wipe workspace where kids can build, sound out and write words, has been great practice for my students in separating their sounds in order to sound them out correctly, then write them correctly. I love how the white board area is first broken into Elkonin boxes (or sound boxes) that provide a visual tool for teaching spelling by segmenting words into individual sounds (phonemes). The students place their sound tiles on them to map sounds, helping them link spoken sounds to written letters, improving phonemic awareness, spelling, and decoding. Under each box is a touch dot for the kids to touch to help the kids point and sound each word. Then there is a writing line to write the word down. The kids are really learning the sounds well with these kits!\r\n\r\nThese kits have really helped us in developing skills in knowing and applying grade-level phonics and word analysis aptitude in decoding words, knowing spelling-sound correspondences for additional common vowel teams, demonstrating knowledge of letter-sound correspondences, associating long and short vowel sounds with common spellings, and knowing final -e and common vowel team conventions for representing long vowel sounds.","fullyFundedDate":1769182942455,"projectUrl":"project/lets-develop-our-phonics-and-word-analy/9989252/","projectTitle":"Let's Develop Our Phonics and Word Analysis Skills!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wold","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6641854_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1572050345085","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6641854"},{"teacherId":8041630,"projectId":9991624,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. I also switch it to red when I am testing students, so the rest of the class knows no interruptions.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting new products would have to be our large electric pencil sharpener and the galaxy projector lights. They love to learn under the stars and they worked in silence. It has been an amazing tool to help students calm down. The students were happy to get the USBs for their iPads to connect to the wireless mouse. Now, it is easier for them to navigate and type during our writing time. \r\n\r\nOur students and their families are also thankful to have a supply of baby wipes. The muddy trails are perfect locations for spotting animal tracks. The rain brings native plants out of summer dormancy, and with that brings a fresh supply of food for herbivores. With the uptick in food, this also means there's an increase in animal scat that we discover along the way. These pieces of evidence tell a remarkable story of life in the refuge, but it is rare that we get to observe the animals directly. Most of the local wildlife is nocturnal or crepuscular, putting their active period outside of our class window. Any remaining animals are quick to scurry away as 28 rambunctious middle schoolers barrel down the trail. \r\n\r\nThe addition of trail cameras opened opportunities to observe animals in their native environment, 24 hours a day. Students began by exploring an area off trail that they thought would have the highest likelihood of recording an animal. Students searched for burrows, locations with lots of animal tracks, or sheltered areas under bushes that contained feathers or bones. Based on these factors, students decided where the cameras should be located (see attached photographs). The cameras were placed in early December, and will record through our school's winter break. We will gather recorded data in mid January. Early results are promising–the cameras have already picked up a variety of local birds and mammals (see attached photographs for trail camera images).\r\n\r\nThis project has also gained the attention of US Fish and Wildlife. As the protector of the refuge, they regulate the area and received our recording permits. They are equally interested in seeing our students engage with the local environment in this unique way. I look forward to working with them in this capacity moving forward. \r\n\r\nThese trail cameras have checked so many boxes: high student engagement, cooperation with local agencies, and most importantly, students are doing real science. Every time an animal walks in front of a camera, it's one more data point that can be graphed. This data can be analyzed and interpreted, and students can come to scientific conclusions.
