What really surprised me was the reaction of my older students – it is often difficult to get them excited about learning. The idea of face to face game play and interactions can be daunting to them. They were genuinely excited and immediately on board with trying new ways to learn and explore. For my younger K-2 learners, the sheer joy of unboxing something brand new built an instant, eager connection to our upcoming lab challenges.\r\nWe are already putting these resources to work to deepen critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving across all grade levels. Within the first few days with my upper elementary students, I integrated the new logic-based board games and spatial challenge sets into our engineering unit. Students worked in small teams to analyze game mechanics, test spatial hypotheses, and communicate strategies under time constraints. One stand-out moment occurred when a group of fifth graders, initially struggling to solve a multi-step spatial puzzle, used trial-and-error strategy outlined in one of our STEAM lessons to adjust their thinking and find a solution. \r\nOver the coming weeks, students will choose a concept from a book they have read and then design their own original board game or puzzle. This will allow them to be creators, applying their math, logic, and design skills in a meaningful way.
