When the packages arrived, I waited to open them with my students, and the looks on their faces were priceless. They were so excited seeing all of the materials and my reading comprehnsion group was eccstatic to receive their new chapter book, The Trumpet of the Swan. \r\n\r\n My students and I use the donated social studies and reading comprehension materials daily. I use the timer with all of my groups at various times for grouping and time management. I was able to use the social studies materials with both my kindergarten and first-grade groups to supplement the daily curriculum while reinforcing and reteaching concepts introduced during initial instruction. For example, I have been working with my kindergartners on building their self-esteem and strong character traits, and was able to reinforce the concept with an activity from one of the donated resources. \r\n\r\nI work with a group of fourth graders on reading comprehension, and we are reading The Trumpet of the Swan. We use the reading comprehension blocks and flip book daily to improve our reading comprehension skills. My goal is to keep building a classroom where my students are actively engaged, focused, and excited to learn. Right now, I'm using the headphones to support independent work and small group instruction, and it's making a huge difference. Students are able to really concentrate during listening activities and interventions, which allows me to better meet their individual needs. At the same time, something as simple as whiteboard markers and erasers is getting everyone more involved. Students are eager to participate, share their thinking, and take risks because it feels low-pressure and interactive.\r\n\r\nI'm also intentionally using the boomwhackers, egg shakers, and dance scarves to bring movement and creativity into our learning. We're practicing patterns, rhythm, and counting while also connecting those skills to literacy, like breaking apart syllables and building fluency. Students are working together, creating their own patterns, and performing them for each other, which is building both confidence and collaboration.
