These supplies have made a huge difference in how smoothly our art lessons run. Students are using the drawing boards to support their work during detailed sketching projects, especially when we focus on proportion and careful observation. This also offers flexible seating where students can choose other places to sit in the room. (the floor, the cozy corner etc.) The glue sticks and paint bottles have made distributing materials so much easier and cleaner, allowing us to spend more time creating and less time managing supplies.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, they were so excited—especially the paint bottles! They loved how easy they were to use and how much more control they had when painting. It may seem like a small change, but it has helped reduce mess, increased independence, and boosted their confidence. Students who were once hesitant now feel more comfortable jumping right into their work.\r\n\r\nAs we continue our projects, these materials will support everything from drawing and painting to mixed-media and collage work. Having reliable, student-friendly tools allows my students to focus on their creativity and artistic growth. We use our new tables every single day for both collaborative and independent projects, and they've made a huge difference in how our classroom functions. Recently, my students have been working on mosaic designs and 3D architectural sculptures inspired by Antoni Gaudí. Having sturdy, spacious tables has allowed them to spread out their materials, build safely, and truly focus on their creative process. One of my favorite moments was watching a group of students gather around a table, helping each other problem-solve how to make their structures stand—something that simply wasn't possible before.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new tables, they were beyond excited. They immediately noticed how much more space they had and how stable everything felt. Many of them said it made them feel like \"real artists\" with a professional workspace! That sense of pride and ownership has carried into their work—they are more engaged, more careful with materials, and more willing to take creative risks.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue building on these skills through more advanced sculpture and mixed-media projects, including finishing their Gaudí-inspired buildings with plaster, paint, and mosaic details. These tables will support every step of that process and so many future projects to come. Thank you for giving my students a space where their creativity can truly grow—we are so incredibly grateful!","fullyFundedDate":1770213099273,"projectUrl":"project/strong-tables-for-strong-artists-creati/10077135/","projectTitle":"Strong Tables for Strong Artists: Creating a Functional Art Space","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ciccotelli","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5970037_orig.jpg?crop=544,544,x0,y61&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759855180009","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5970037"},{"teacherId":3986199,"projectId":9744973,"letterContent":"Thank you again for your generous donation to help bring more standing desks to my school. Three different classrooms, a fourth-grade general education classroom, a fourth grade integrated co-teaching classroom, and a third-grade self-contained classroom, were able to integrate these desks into their rooms. They have become a big part of their learning style on a daily basis.\r\n\r\nMany of the students have reported that they like that they have an option to change their position when needed. They have also reported that they are happy they get a break from having to sit all day long. The classrooms have come up with a system for the students to take turns. Many of the students have come to understand the reason behind using a standing desk and ask to use it independently. Other students are happy that the desks have wheels which allows them to move it to different areas of the room to work in groups or a quieter section of the room. The desks have served many benefits to these classrooms in just the short time they have had them.\r\n\r\nSo, we thank you again for your generosity and support in helping us with bringing flexible seating options to our classrooms. Before they arrived, many students struggled to keep their devices powered throughout the day, which interrupted learning and limited their ability to participate fully in lessons—especially in STEM activities that require consistent access to technology.\r\n\r\nNow, with reliable chargers available, students can stay engaged from start to finish. They are able to complete digital assignments, access interactive science simulations, code during STEM challenges, and collaborate on shared documents without fear that their device will die midway through a project. For a while, our classroom printer was mostly silent, broken down and out of critical color ink. When your quick and thoughtful donation arrived, allowing us to repair the machine and stock up on essential cartridges, it didn't just fix a piece of equipment—it restored a vital lifeline to our learning. The return of vibrant color is particularly transformative for our students with diverse needs, immediately enabling us to produce the high-contrast text and visually structured materials that are key to their academic success. You turned a technical problem into a powerful solution for equity.\r\n\r\nThe energy in the room was instant and joyous! Currently, our second graders are deep into their Community Helper Mail project, where they research and send thank-you notes. When we printed the first batch of their special writing templates and tracing guides in full, brilliant color, the whole class cheered! This simple change helps students who need color cues to focus and organize their work find the process much simpler and more engaging. More importantly, this ability now allows us to dedicate time to building a custom library of Special Education supports that we couldn't create before. We are actively using the printer to create bright, personalized tools like daily visual schedules and easy-to-read communication boards. For many of our students, these color-coded visuals are the key to reducing anxiety, helping them clearly communicate their needs, and ensuring we can instantly tailor the learning environment to match the needs of every single child.\r\n\r\nAs we look toward the rest of the school year, our next step is to maximize the longevity of your gift by creating durable, permanent classroom visuals. We are laminating new color-rich signs, instructional anchor charts, and reusable learning guides. These materials will become fixtures in our classroom, ensuring that clear visual organization and accessible color coding are permanent features of our learning space. This enduring support for every student's learning journey is entirely thanks to the generosity you showed our class. Thank you for making our classroom a more colorful, equitable, and effective place to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1749732375006,"projectUrl":"project/our-classroom-is-in-need-of-a-little-hel/9305637/","projectTitle":"Our Classroom Is in Need of a Little Help","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sawicki","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9820517"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_944","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":353,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":68,"percentAsian":44,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":37,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.7,"schoolId":944,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 31 Bayside on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 31 Bayside","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-31-bayside/944"}
