A few students actually gasped, and one of my girls clapped her hands and yelled, \"We get to keep these for our books?!\" For 3rd graders, having something brand new that belongs specifically to them makes them feel so valued and mature. They immediately gathered around to pick their favorite colors and spent time carefully sliding their independent reading books inside.\r\n\r\nRight now, these book baggies are transforming our daily independent reading routines. Before, books were getting bent at the bottom of backpacks or misplaced during transitions between our desks and reading carpet. Now, every morning starts with students proudly grabbing their personal book baggies, finding a cozy spot in the room, and diving straight into their reading. \r\n\r\nThank you for opening a window into our classroom and directly investing in my students' confidence and love for reading. My students' intrinsic motivation to make their writing clear and accurate is palpable in the room as you can see in the pictures. I wish you could experience it! From the moment I shared the flair pens, and explained how serious editors approach their writing, all the students could not wait to get started. They read their drafts very carefully using the different colored pens to make corrections and to prepare for publishing their final piece. We will have a culminating publishing celebration by the end of the month.\r\n\r\nIt's amazing how the right tools can change the tone of a task. The editing and revising processes have never been as exciting as they have have this week. Students are eager to use the technology and often ask for extra time to continue learning with it.\r\nSome students have especially benefited from this new resource.
