These new tools have made our classroom that much more welcoming, conducive to flexible learning, and have multiplied our students sense of joy in learning! \r\n\r\nThe chair we were able to buy is a favorite in the break area. Students now know when they come into the science room their need to take a 5 minute break will be comfortably met. The chair has been especially useful for our NEST students on the autism spectrum who after transitioning between classes often take advantage of it to pause and regulate themselves. \r\n\r\nSince we were able to introduce the freestanding board, alternative seating, clipboard and organizational tools the classroom has become that much more student activating! The freestanding board on wheels brought the flexibility we needed. We utilize it daily to teach and learn anywhere in the classroom front or back. Students love to be the ones to take notes on it for the whole class and this has given them the opportunity to take on more of a leadership role in the classroom. Since being able to revamp the classroom I have seen more joy and freedom from the students being able to self-advocate, lead, and connect to their own learning. Thank you so much for giving us this! As students build models together, they are naturally encouraged to use vocabulary related to colors, shapes, size, numbers, and positions (for example, on, next to, taller than). Structured building tasks promote purposeful talk, such as asking for pieces, giving directions, or explaining ideas, which helps students practice speaking and listening skills in meaningful contexts. Because the activity is collaborative, students are motivated to communicate even if their English is still developing.\r\n\r\nLEGOs also support language development through storytelling and problem‑solving. After building, students can describe their creations, label parts, or create simple narratives about what they built and why. This strengthens sentence formation, sequencing, and academic language while allowing multiple entry points for English learners at different proficiency levels. The visual and tactile nature of LEGOs provides strong language supports, helping students connect new English words to concrete experiences and building confidence in using English throughout the after‑school program.","fullyFundedDate":1775054869494,"projectUrl":"project/building-english-learning/10170822/","projectTitle":"Building English Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. O'Connell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5524430_orig.png?crop=775,775,x5,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1685115809182","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jennifer-oconnell"},{"teacherId":6877492,"projectId":10157216,"letterContent":"Your generous gift supported 12 amazing students and made their learning journey successful.
