These materials are paramount to our students' learning outcomes. About 30% of our students have special needs. Additionally, some of those students are on the autism spectrum. It is not only important to have materials such as comfortable and flexible seating, but by also utilizing lightening that isn't too harsh as well as tactile materials such as shag rugs, we may help to put our ASD students at ease as they focus on reading in their classroom library.
But we want our library to be comfortable for all our students. These materials will give all students options of where they want to sit. They can choose to use classroom chairs, but with these items, they may also be able to choose to sit on bean bag chairs or on the rug on the floor. This is wonderful because it gives the students autonomy over the environment in which they are learning. So, the idea is that the more comfortable the students are, the better they will be able to focus on their learning goals.
