We have had a few friends that have already needed to take home a pair of pants or two and some socks. These have been such a blessing to have access to for students. We hung the jackets that were ordered in each child's locker and a few friends have worn them in the classroom to keep warm if they were in short sleeves and the school was a bit chilly.\r\nThank you for the ability to give these to students to use as needed. On the last day of February as we celebrated famous African Americans, our treat was Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies. The most used/loved item of all by my students is the Kwik Stix Solid Tempera Paint Sticks. We've used the tissue paper squares for decorating our Valentines boxes. Play dough colors get switched out every month. Each student has their own can of dough to avoid spread of germs. We started this practice during Covid. The old dough gets sent home in a bag and the kids are always excited to show their parents. They love to practice counting and naming the numbers during our circle time and now they have another way to do it. The variety of boxes and their topics is very appealing to everyone. Springtime will see the Bees, Flowers and Lady Bugs sets come out. We have a Pirate Day every year and will surely see students using their favorite; the Treasure Chest. I like the fact that this set has many boxes so that we can have a large group activity where students can work together in teams.\r\n\r\nThe youngest students in the class like using the Peg Number Boards. Many of them don't know all of their numbers yet, but they like the multi-colored pegs. They will sort the colors and then use their fine motor skills to fill holes with the pegs. It's been wonderful to see how engaged they are—students love being able to erase and try again without fear of making mistakes. The whiteboards have made learning to read and write more active and enjoyable, and I've already noticed a boost in their confidence and retention of letter sounds.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students' faces lit up with excitement! They couldn't wait to start writing and drawing on their own boards. It was heartwarming to see how something so simple could make them feel like \"real writers.\" Our next step is to use the boards during small-group reading lessons, where students will build and write short words and sentences to strengthen their decoding and spelling skills. \r\n\r\nOur classroom has been buzzing with excitement during interactive literacy activities like CVC word building, sight word worksheets, and sentence matching.
