The racks and hangers have allowed us to neatly display clothing so students can easily find items that fit their needs. Instead of digging through piles or bags, students are able to look through the racks and choose clothing in a way that feels comfortable and respectful. This simple change has made a huge difference in helping students feel confident and supported during the school day.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived and we set up the closet, students and staff were so excited to see how organized and accessible everything looked. One of our students was able to find a warm sweatshirt and proudly wore it the rest of the day with a huge smile. Moments like that remind us how important it is for students to have access to basic needs so they can focus on learning, friendships, and being kids.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, our goal is to continue growing this Community Closet by organizing donations and making sure items are easy for students and families to access when needed. Thanks to your support, we now have a system in place that allows us to care for our school community in a meaningful way. When students were hungry, their focus, stamina, and emotional regulation were often the first things affected. By providing consistent access to snacks like fruit snacks, pretzels, Goldfish, Cheez-Its, and granola bars, I was able to proactively remove a major barrier to learning. A quick snack during a long academic block helped stabilize energy levels, reduce distraction, and increase students' ability to participate in instruction, complete tasks, and engage in discussions. Meeting this basic need allowed students to show up cognitively and emotionally ready to learn.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, this project strengthened the sense of care and community in our classroom. When students saw that their well-being was prioritized, it built trust and reinforced that our classroom is a safe, supportive environment. Snacks were incorporated into structured routines, social skill practice, and positive reinforcement systems, making them both functional and motivating. By addressing hunger with dignity and consistency, this project supported not only student achievement but also belonging, stability, and a positive classroom climate.","fullyFundedDate":1758294470817,"projectUrl":"project/snacks-for-students/9704523/","projectTitle":"Snacks for Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Greer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4886826_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690316923226","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/a-greer"},{"teacherId":4886826,"projectId":10036314,"letterContent":"Providing snacks such as Slim Jims for a student with diabetes, along with Cheez-Its, pretzels, Goldfish, fruit snacks, and other grab and go options, directly supports my students' health, regulation, and ability to learn. For one of my students, having access to a protein based snack like a Slim Jim is not just helpful, it is medically necessary to help stabilize blood sugar levels and prevent interruptions to instruction. For others, a quick snack can prevent fatigue, irritability, or loss of focus during longer academic blocks. When students' basic needs are met, they are better able to engage in reading, math, communication activities, and life skills instruction without distraction.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, having consistent access to snacks creates a sense of safety and care within our classroom community. My students know that if they are hungry, dysregulated, or managing a medical need, their classroom is a supportive space where those needs will be addressed without stigma. Snacks also provide natural opportunities to practice life skills such as making choices, waiting appropriately, using polite language, and cleaning up after themselves. By ensuring that food insecurity or medical needs do not become barriers to participation, these resources help maintain dignity, promote inclusion, and allow every student to fully access their school day.","fullyFundedDate":1768746037609,"projectUrl":"project/hungry-for-learning/10036314/","projectTitle":"Hungry for Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Greer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4886826_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690316923226","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/a-greer"},{"teacherId":4886826,"projectId":9864228,"letterContent":"The stockings, craft materials, Christmas wristbands, holiday bingo games, and festive party supplies will allow our classroom celebration to be more than just a party. Many of my students benefit from visual supports and clearly defined activities, and these materials provide predictable, engaging ways for them to participate successfully. Wearing holiday wristbands, decorating stockings, and completing crafts also foster a sense of belonging and shared identity within our classroom community.\r\n\r\nBeyond the fun and excitement, these materials support meaningful social emotional growth. Participating in holiday games and collaborative crafts helps students practice turn taking, patience, flexible thinking, and positive peer interaction. The headphones allow students to fully engage with instructional technology by clearly hearing lessons, directions, and feedback without distractions from the classroom environment. Many of our academic programs include audio support, read-aloud features, and interactive components, which help students better understand grade-level content. Having individual headphones allows students to work at their own pace, build independence, and stay focused, which has been especially important for students who need extra support with reading, attention, or language processing.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting for students is having their own set of headphones to use during learning time. They feel a sense of ownership and responsibility, and they are excited to use tools that help them learn in a way that feels comfortable and accessible. Students love being able to clearly hear stories, math directions, and educational videos, and it has helped make technology time more productive and less distracting for everyone in the classroom.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially benefited from this project, particularly those who are easily distracted by noise or who rely on audio supports to access grade-level material. I have seen students stay engaged for longer periods of time, complete more independent work, and show greater confidence when working through lessons. The 12 Days of Christmas activities gave students something to look forward to each morning, helping increase engagement, attendance, and positive behavior as we approached winter break. These small surprises served as powerful incentives, encouraging kindness, participation, and perseverance while reinforcing a sense of routine and structure.\r\n\r\nFor many of my students, school is their most consistent source of stability and celebration. Providing festive treats, activities, and prizes ensured that every child felt included and valued, regardless of what they may experience outside of the classroom. The daily surprises helped build classroom community, strengthened relationships, and created shared experiences that promoted social emotional growth.\r\n\r\nBeyond the tangible items, this project fostered belonging and boosted morale. Students demonstrated increased excitement for learning, improved peer interactions, and a stronger sense of pride in their classroom. Items such as fans, batteries, a hot glue gun, and a speaker play an important role in creating a structured, responsive environment for diverse learners. Fans offer calming sensory input for students who become overwhelmed, helping them regulate emotions and remain focused during instruction. Batteries are necessary to power adaptive tools, timers, and small electronics that students rely on throughout the day for academic and functional activities.\r\n\r\nThe hot glue gun supports hands-on learning and allows for quick repairs of classroom materials, as well as the creation of visual supports and adapted tools tailored to individual student needs. The classroom speaker enhances group instruction by ensuring directions and lessons are clearly heard by all students, increasing engagement and accessibility across the room.\r\n\r\nTogether, these resources have helped foster a more organized, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
