Writing books makes my students' writing relevant to them. We study lots of authors and the books they written in order for my students to learn what real life authors do. We have watched videos of authors talking to one another about their writing and have even participated in a live stream author assembly.\r\nWhen I showed my class the materials donated, there was an excitement in the air. The students saw the premade little books in our writing center and could not wait to hear what they could use them for.\r\nOne particular student who has difficulty writing has a love of creating little books. The violin students love taking turns playing the tuning fork during tuning time. Using the fork is a practical lesson in the relationship between vibration and sound.\r\n\r\nThe rosin holders are also proving invaluable. The magnet keeps them easy to find because they stick to one of the violin storage cabinets, and the rubber holder makes the rosin itself nearly indestructible! Even the most careful students drop the rosin sometimes, but none of the new rosin has broken, despite a few falls.\r\n\r\nThe brass players have been thrilled to have dedicated mouthpieces for buzzing practice. Now, even if a student forgets their instrument, they can still build embouchure strength and participate fully. It has eliminated so much frustration and turned potential \"lost\" days into productive, confidence-boosting ones.\r\n\r\nIn a few weeks, the 3rd graders will begin working on the Monkey Song.
