Students now use phonics manipulatives daily during small group instruction and literacy centers - building words with letter tiles, segmenting and blending sounds with magnetic boards, and practicing decoding with decodable readers. The most rewarding part has been watching students take ownership of their learning while having fun exploring sounds. Their excitement, peer encouragement, and shared discoveries highlight just how impactful these resources are, making abstract concepts tangible as students connect sounds to letters and words.\r\n\r\nFrom the moment the materials were introduced, students were eager and fully engaged, after all, learning feels like play! I am even enjoying the sight word swat game, it was really fun and if I play with my students, we are all super competitive! The colorful, interactive tools sparked curiosity and joy, while also encouraging students to take risks, participate more confidently, and collaborate with one another. It's been incredible to see their confidence grow as they realize they have the skills and tools to become successful readers.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue building on these foundational skills by applying their phonics knowledge to more complex reading and writing tasks. They are already transitioning from simply recognizing letters to connecting sounds and blending them to read words. With these resources, students are not only learning to read, they are developing a lifelong love of reading and the confidence to embrace new learning every day.","fullyFundedDate":1752506255822,"projectUrl":"project/unlocking-literacy-phonics-tools-for-co/9226339/","projectTitle":"Unlocking Literacy: Phonics Tools for Confident Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hanna","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7854723_orig.jpg?crop=1566,1566,x414,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1668056687541","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-hanna1445"},{"teacherId":90408,"projectId":10174132,"letterContent":"Thank you for providing me with vacuums to clean my room! Students are more engaged during read-alouds and independent reading, showing increased curiosity, building stronger vocabulary, and growing their love for reading. The variety of the stories and the novelty of the titles have students often asking to read more or share their favorite books with classmates. In addition to fun stories about being a kindergartner and recess, there's also books about other major events from the Great Migration and the 1619 Project to Stacy Abrams and Kamala Harris.\r\n\r\nWith these new resources, I've been able to create a more inclusive and enriching literacy environment that supports a wide range of learners. By incorporating books that celebrate diverse voices, including those from Black authors and stories sourced through Mahogany Books, I can provide intentional, culturally responsive instruction that deepens comprehension and critical thinking. Because of your generosity, our classroom is a place where every student can experience the joy of reading while building the skills they need for lifelong success.
