While many students thrived socially and academically during virtual instruction, all too many struggled. This, on top of the other ills that some of our students have faced prior to, during and at present presents as a major obstacle for the development of self-esteem, empathy and hope. This fighting trauma through love and literacy program will connect students in grades 3-5 with a loving staff member that will lead weekly book clubs. By using literature that provides stories of love, hope and triumph staff will use the subjects of books to help students make connections to their own lives though journaling. Fighting trauma through Love and Literacy is a win-win-win-WIN situation. These book clubs will also help develop meaningful relationships between students and staff as well as students with their peers all while supporting reading and writing skills. And the snacks? What's a book club without snacks?
