We really appreciate your donation as it has already made in impact since its arrival.\r\n\r\nThe first day the packets arrived there was a need for the chromebook for iReady testing, but we had to wait to get it set up on our school wifi and to be charged. Each day a student forgets their ipad at home, or it is not charged or it is in the office being fixed. The second day we had several students who needed it. But one student in particular needed it for the IReady middle of the year assessment. It really made a difference. Most quizzes we can ask for students to share their ipad after they are done with their quiz. But, during iReady testing they test for 2 days for 1.5 hours each day. The chromebook allowed a student to be assessed and to not fall behind on their academics. \r\n\r\nThe pencils are a hot commodity in class. Out of 200+ students I often have students who have forgotten their pencils. This has allowed kids to participate and do their classwork (fill out their science workbook or copy the study guide). \r\n\r\nThank yo so much for your generosity! It has made a huge impact already! We used the colored pencils and markers to expand our interpretations of literary texts by drawing visual representations of metaphors, symbols, and themes in each text. For example, we created colorful pictures of a rose while studying Tupac Shakur's poem \"The Rose that Grew From Concrete\" and of trees from Sandra Cisneros' memoir \"Four Skinny Trees.\" These drawings have given students a picturesque reference point for their writing and help them to gather their ideas in their own colorful ways -- and I find that the best writing happens when students take ownership of their own perspectives on the text before confronting an essay writing assignment.\r\n\r\nWe also used the materials to illustrate our weekly vocabulary lists, which helps students to make sense of each word out of context before they see it in context in their reading. The students are challenged to draw a picture that demonstrates their understanding of the word, then they have to color it; that way, they have to engage in a two-step process for internalizing the meaning of each word.\r\n\r\nMy students were thrilled to receive these materials, because they love to take part in creative projects in class. So many of them mentioned how wonderful it is that people who don't even know them donated funds to the project. They were touched to hear that my family members and friends pitched in, and were impressed that even complete strangers to my school and me donated, as well. I think this really helps them to understand what a small world we live in, and that it truly \"takes a village\" to educate our children.\r\n\r\nThank you all again.
