My students are precocious second language learners. They are learning English as a second language. At the same time our school is a Title 1 school where almost all students live in poverty. Most parents are undereducated and often shy away from 'helping' their children. As a result, many students start school without a strong academic foundation. As their teacher I do my best to bring them up to grade level in all subjects. I have seven resource students who get extra help in reading and math. I have many different types of learners but all learn very well through kinesthetic activities. I have found when they do projects, play educational games, and work with manipulatives - particularly in math, students are engaged and enjoy learning. I hope to keep their enthusiasm for learning alive as long as possible.
