The owl pellets have arrived and I am so excited to use them with my new students. They have been asking for hands on science and this will be the perfect project to use. I know they will have a blast dissecting and organizing the bones in each pellet. This will be one of those projects that they remember forever. We will use the scientific method to work through the dissection. The students will also create a visual presentation on thier owl pellet and share it with other classrooms. The look on their faces was priceless! Cheers of joy, clapping, smiles, giggles, and zoomies! They dove right in to explore all of the pieces. It quickly became a bake-off! All of a sudden they were all working together to get the kitchen ready, bake some cupcakes, and serve them to all of the adults in the room. \r\n\r\n The play kitchen provides that chance for our friends to engage in pretend play which helps develop social imagination and empathy. It also fosters communication as they role-play. Our students jumped right into the role of taking orders from each other - even our friends who are non-verbal became involved as others would present choices for that student. Heart-warming.\r\n\r\nWith your generosity you have not simply put a toy in a classroom - you have opened up new experiences and chances to grow.","fullyFundedDate":1731702224680,"projectUrl":"project/cooking-with-kindness/8903431/","projectTitle":"Cooking with Kindness","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Scherff","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1930156_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1477503849976","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jscherff"},{"teacherId":204511,"projectId":9008675,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the donation of pencils. It seems like something small but it has made a huge impact on my students. This time of year students tend to run out of the supplies they started with in the beginning of the year. Pencils are something that is used each day, all day, by all students. They run out quickly, so having this pre-sharpened supply to hand out right away when a student needs it is invaluable. It saves time and stress and allows us to focus on the work. Thanks to you, we have more for after winter break! \r\nTheir math skills are on fire. The support materials provide the needed practice and remediation to help with gap skills. \r\nThe other materials are for the 8th grade Move Up ceremony in June, which is something we already started planning for.
