Because of your generosity, our students now have the hands-on science equipment and engaging supplies needed to transform abstract concepts into tangible, exciting experiments. Thank you for investing in our learning!\r\n\r\n🔬 Using Our New Resources: Motion, Models, and Discovery\r\nWe are currently diving deep into the world of Physical Science and Biology, and your donations are at the heart of our exploration.\r\n\r\nWe are using the Lakeshore STEM Science Station on Motion, the Newton's Second Law of Motion Apparatus, and the Newton's Cradle to directly investigate force, acceleration, and balance.\r\n\r\nA Specific Classroom Moment: Seeing the Newton's Cradle Balance Balls arrive was a defining moment. For many students, Newton's laws are just textbook concepts. But when they gathered around the kinetic motion toy, observing the energy transfer from ball to ball, the room immediately filled with \"oohs\" and \"aahs.\" They didn't just read about conservation of energy; they witnessed it. The equipment allows them to test different variables, making them active scientists, not just passive readers.\r\n\r\n🤩 Student Reactions: Excitement and Engagement\r\nThe reaction to the materials was pure joy and curiosity!\r\n\r\nWhen the Model 4D Science Plant Cell and the Molymod Biological Sciences Molecular Model Set were unboxed, students were eager to snap the pieces together. Instead of just drawing diagrams, they literally built a 3D plant cell and assembled molecular models. This tactile experience is invaluable for spatial learning.\r\n\r\nThe Cordless Hot Melt Glue Gun and Light Duty Staple Gun kit have turned our project corner into a true engineering lab, giving students professional-grade tools to build their science fair prototypes and models—all while practicing important safety and organizational skills.\r\n\r\nAnd yes, even the 100pcs Cute Snack, Food, and Drink Stickers and Fruit Roll-Ups have played a role, helping us with non-academic rewards, decorations, and a little fun during complex activities!\r\n\r\n💡 What's Next? Building Science Knowledge\r\nOur current lesson cycle is focused on Cell Biology. Thanks to your donation of the models and the KIMTECH SCIENCE KIMWIPES (which are essential for keeping our microscopes and lab areas clean!), the students are moving from building the Plant Cell Model to using real microscopes to compare their model to actual onion skin cells.\r\n\r\nThe next steps in our project are:\r\n\r\nMicroscopy Lab: Students will use their understanding of cell components to identify organelles in real specimens.\r\n\r\nForces in Design: We will return to our motion kits to design and build protective packaging for an egg drop competition, applying Newton's Laws to real-world engineering problems.\r\n\r\nYour support has made our classroom a vibrant, hands-on place for discovery. This allowed them to create a drive that made them want to do better in school. From the candy all the way down to the griddle, I've been able to create a space where students truly want to learn (even if it's only for food, LOL). When of the materials, their eyes INSTANTLY lit up. It was like everything in the room was non-existent and it was just them and the treats. My scores have reached to heights that I've never seen before because of your donations. My students are absolutely grateful to have breakfast bars and snacks for the times they are hungry. They have honestly shown improvement with their scores and grasping of materials because of this. Having a microwave also helps them eat lunch instead of skipping it during the day. When they first seen everything, some were almost in tears. They are truly happy about the transformation of the room. \r\n\r\nThrough your donations, I was able to impact so many lives. Being able to help my students in areas that their families may struggle with truly brings a smile on my face. The next steps for my classroom lesson is to help them grasp the elements of science. My students and I are truly grateful for your kindness and the love you have for education. \r\n\r\nCurrently, we are learning about the Period Table and Mixtures. Through the snacks you donated and the Period Table display, my students have had the best time learning. This has made teaching SO MUCH easier.","fullyFundedDate":1719422357746,"projectUrl":"project/a-fresh-start/8457556/","projectTitle":"A Fresh Start","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Walters","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9403962_orig.png?crop=800,800,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1722716504290","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sciencew-e"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_45796","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":373,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":67,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":48,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":49,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.5,"schoolId":45796,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Paul L Dunbar K-8 Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Paul L Dunbar K-8 Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/florida/miami-dade-county-public-schools/paul-l-dunbar-elementary-school/45796"}
