The students had a ball learning and competing against each other. They learned the valuable lesson of supply and demand. They also learned the more expensive an item is the less there is demand for it. We explored what drives up the cost of items like a limited supply. We used current gas prices as a reference point, and how people modify their behaviors so they use less of those items.\r\n\r\nThey strategized with their limited funds. Some held on to their money until the last round, while other blew it all in the beginning. There were three rounds to simulate different point in an economy. In round one everything was a reasonable value, in round 2 their money became worth half of the original value, and in the 3rd round the valued doubled its round 1 value. They had no way of knowing what was coming next. I made sealed gift bags with assortments of snacks (oreos, caprisuns, fruit snacks, chips, and rice crispies), which simulated the unpredictability of life and how people take investment chances. Once the large container of cheese balls came out, the competition intensified. Through this support, five students earned at least two Microsoft Certifications, and three of those students successfully earned all three certifications in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The trophies and gift bags provided through the project served as tangible recognition of their hard work and dedication, increasing student motivation, confidence, and pride in their accomplishments. Students were excited and grateful to receive these rewards, which reinforced the importance of perseverance and academic excellence. \r\n\r\nOverall, the Donors Choose funding helped create a positive and encouraging classroom environment that motivated students to remain engaged while developing critical digital literacy and career-readiness skills. Sometimes students need hygiene basics and are unable to afford them or run into situations where they don't have what they need with them.\r\n\r\nI was so happy to have my first visitor stop by. A student had just left gym class and was a little self conscience. He asked if I had any deodorant. I gladly directed him to the hygiene station and reminded him to wash his underarms and dry them before putting on fresh deodorant. I showed him the body wash and compressed towels and sent him to the restroom.\r\n\r\nWith your support they have brushes, combs, hair ties to style their hair. The students have deodorant and body wipes to combat the approaching spring/summer heat. I added a few items to help with any extra things I think they will need. The tissue will be ready for the next round of runny and sneezy noses. \r\n\r\nThe wipes have not only killed the germs on surfaces, but have also combated the ongoing questionable spills and stains left behind. The whip cream, marshmallows, hot chocolate, and creamer were burned through so quickly, I was amazed. I was happy to have enough to be able to restock as needed. The canisters kept everything pipping hot. I had to remind them that it was hot and to let it cool down before you drink anything.\r\n\r\nWhen the saw the food their smiles stretched even wider. Little Debbie's and pringles kept them full until lunchtime. Every year the students burn through tissue at a rate that makes no sense. Usually I run out of tissue well before November, but the mountain of tissues will last well into the new year.\r\n\r\nWith the additional PPE our defenses will be reinforced. The masks and hand sanitizer will contain germs from spreading from person to person.
