I love how they are able to work independently to follow detailed directions and construct different projects. Some favorite projects have been building cranes, mechanical arms and Mars landers. \r\nOne of the things that has been a pleasant surprise is that the projects are accessible and achievable for all of my students. Students can work alone or together, and they help and support each other along the way. \r\nAs a teacher, I also love that I can share projects with my students on Google Classroom, so they are able to work on them on their own and even on days when we have a substitute. The assignments mostly take less than 45-50 minutes from beginning to completion, so students are able to start and complete a build within one class period. \r\nStudents are learning so many engineering concepts to create kinetic, mechanical machines, and I love seeing how proud they are of themselves. By the end of the year we had many Strawbees cranes and Mars landers displayed throughout our classroom.\r\nThank you so much for contributing to this project! Having a 3-D printer steadily humming made our maker space feel cozy and exciting. We started the year by making components and story characters for building challenges. We build boats and rafts for small 3-D printed rabbits as we navigated solutions inspired by the book \"The North Star\". During the week of Halloween we used glow-in-the-dark filament to make street lights and skulls for our \"Design a Trick-or-Treat Street\" Community Challenge. We designed ninja training courses for tiny 3-D printed reindeers for our last week before winter break. \r\nDuring our spring lessons, 4th graders worked on designing their own inventions, and we were able to make our own springs, cardboard hinges and nuts and bolts.\r\nOur school initiated a schoolwide economy this year as a behavior incentive, and our class utilized our 3-D printer to create fidgets that students could buy with their Jaguar Gems. They became part of the design process and students were so excited to be able to purchase something that was 3-D printed. We are looking forward to continuing this in the fall, as well as finally printing custom designs with our 5th graders as they are challenged to design and create a stencil in Tinkercad. \r\nThank you so much for your contribution to this project.
