There were several amazing materials that were able to be used with the sophomore creative writing unit surrounding Edgar Allan Poe (Books, stuffed Poe, coloring book, poster, etc). For my freshmen students there were lots of fun things to use with our Odyssey unit (posters, costumes, games, books, greek mythology). Their excitement grew as we talked through all the creative possibilities, and they eagerly shared what they were most excited to try and what they hoped to make. So far, they've loved creating jellyfish artwork and experimenting with collage — and the new materials have been absolutely invaluable in helping them express themselves.\r\n\r\nWe've planned a full calendar of projects for the rest of the year and into 2026. In particular, the printer, white boards, and the expanded monitor have all contributed meaningfully.\r\n\r\nThe idea was to create a space that would encourage greater success on on-line credit recovery. However, what we have learned is that success in the on-line credit recovery world, for the students I am working with, is less about providing skill and content support and more about building trusting relationships. The technology additions to the space have encouraged relationship building.\r\n\r\nThe flexible whiteboards have permitted me to write encouraging notes and make goals public. The printer has permitted me to print out work for other classes that have to be maintained even as we're recovering credits. And the enlarged computer screen has permitted us to more clearly visually represent progress in a way that we can share the growth.\r\n\r\nIt has been a success. I was assigned two students to pilot this work. One student is a graduating senior who was missing 3 English credits. She recovered all 3 credits in 9 weeks and is now back on track to graduate on time. The other student is an 11th grader without any English credits. He recovered his first credit by the end of the first 9 weeks, and he earned a \"C\" in his current English class. He gained a credit without losing ground. When we got to the end of the 9 weeks, we celebrated. The principal and one of our assistant principals visited us for photos, I bought the students special lunches, and I contacted the families. \r\n\r\nThe Donors Choose gifts tangibly supported this work and these students, and we are thankful.","fullyFundedDate":1755435954191,"projectUrl":"project/credit-recovery-classroom-culture/9615089/","projectTitle":"Credit Recovery Classroom Culture","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Lineweaver","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10058833"},{"teacherId":2406578,"projectId":9052968,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donation to my classroom. The theme of this semester is meeting new people. This project absolutely met this purpose!\r\n\r\nIt was awesome to see students organically and spontaneously engaging on a new level. Students were challenging each other. They were challenging teachers. They were challenging Food Service Staff. They were even giving necklaces to security officers so they could challenge them.\r\n\r\nI personally had many interactions where I was walking in one direction down the hallway, and there was a student walking in the other direction. We would make eye contact, immediately nod, knowing that we both wanted to challenge without even talking. We would then introduce ourselves and make a lasting connection.\r\n\r\nThis event also helped kick off the new House System that has been started at North Central. The school has been divided into 4 different houses (like Harry Potter) that compete against each other. The houses are Ruby, Diamond, Obsidian, and Quartz.\r\n\r\nI regret to inform you that my house, Obsidian, failed to beat its rival, Quartz house! We will get you next time! Lol!\r\n\r\nOn a more serious note, I want to thank you for having faith in me. I have never managed something with this many moving parts or was executed this quickly. There were 10,000 necklaces, 200 Staff, 60 support staff, 4000 students – all of which had to have the materials delivered and explained. We had to make support videos, lessons, etc.\r\n\r\nThis was a massive lift.\r\n\r\nI learned more about large group leadership in 1 week than I learned in my entire Master's in Leadership Program.\r\n\r\nThank you.","fullyFundedDate":1748835432536,"projectUrl":"project/school-wide-paper-rock-scissors-tourname/9376380/","projectTitle":"School-Wide Paper Rock Scissors Tournament","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Sprague","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10042686"},{"teacherId":7941565,"projectId":9376310,"letterContent":"Thank you again for supporting my students and their math education journey. I look forward to seeing the students' faces when they learn we can use them to add, subtract and even multiply polynomials.
