The students were extremely excited to use the pattern blocks. It also provided a lesson about community service of donating to help others.\r\n\r\nSince it is still the beginning of year, 1st grade is still learning how to respect materials and follow directions. When they saw the materials they just wanted to make what they wanted. However, the task was to make as many of the cards as they can. \r\n\r\nIn the middle of the lesson students were surveyed to see how many cards they made by holding their fingers up. Majority had made either 2 or 5; this allowed me to see if I could push all if to make more than 5 in the remaining time left. The room got so focused, it was amazing!
