Most recently we were able to have a college level type of conversation/discussion. We watched a documentary produced by the national autonomous university of Mexico. However, I feel that we had a good kick off and doing this for the first time overall went well. Students made paintings on canvases of cultural elements from the Spanish Speaking world. It is a beautiful display. Also thanks to the laminator and laminator sheets I am able to preserve beautiful projects for many years to come. Students also like to make copies for themselves and laminate and take it home. They are proud of the work they create. They love to work with the classroom lights off, the blinds open allowing the sun in, and the new LED lights on. We have them on a soft light setting. I have heard students pass by in the hallway and talk about how it is one of the nicer classrooms on our campus. Also, students have been enjoying keeping themselves busy while listening. There are students who come in with the bare minimum of supplies. There were thirteen binders left over from last year so filling those up with this paper helped. There have been a few occasions in that a student will forget his or her binder and instead of asking a classmate for a piece of paper they remember that there is paper available. Your generous donation made it possible to offer a variety of multicultural works written by women authors - including \"The Color Purple\" which one of my groups chose to read.\r\n\r\nAcross seven weeks, groups were able to read and discuss the book in class, complete reading logs, and work together on their choice of creative assignments to show their understanding and engagement with the novel. On the last day of the project I asked the group what they thought of the novel, and they all said they really enjoyed it; many were also planning on watching the film versions of the story!\r\n\r\nI have included some of the activities they completed with my \"Thank You\" Package.
