My students all carry a diagnosis of Autism and have lots of sensory needs. This project has helped support those needs. My students love being able to take sensory breaks and use the various kinetic sand boxes and squishy blocks. The other favorite is the vibrating giant tactile cuddle bug. This items along with all the others have helped to calm students when they are overwhelmed and overstimulated. There are no words for the amount of love I feel when a request for new supplies are fulfilled. Many of my students are from low income homes and don't have the means to have musical influences and supplies at their disposal. \r\n\r\nI regret to inform you however, that the supplies I received do not work. The speaker would only play for an hour (I needed for at least a school day) and the tablet also does not hold a charge and often will not turn on. The speaker was taken back and I was promised a new one when the school year starts. I hope I will receive it in September. When I contacted donors choose about the tablet not working they told me that I missed the thirty day window and there was basically nothing that could be done. So I apologize that the tablet is not being used by my deaf students bc I can't keep it charged long enough to incorporate it into their educational plans. I requested a cheap one knowing young children would be using it and I didn't want to ask for something too expensive- lesson learned I guess. I hope the speaker works when I receive it and it brings many joy! The timer is a reminder to students to stay on task, as well as how much time is left of music class. It is a great focal point for my special needs students who need time for transition.
