These tools have been especially helpful during independent work, small group instruction, and transitions—times when many of my students typically struggle the most with focus and self-regulation. For example, during a recent writing activity, one student who often has difficulty staying seated chose to use the weighted shoulder cushion. With that added proprioceptive input, he was able to remain in his seat, complete his assignment, and even share his work with the class—something that has been a challenge for him in the past.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were incredibly excited and curious. They were eager to try each tool and immediately began asking thoughtful questions about how and when they could use them. What stood out most was how quickly they recognized that these tools helped them feel calmer and more in control. Several students now independently request the Body Pod or shoulder cushion when they feel their bodies becoming restless or overwhelmed, which is a huge step toward building self-awareness and independence.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we are continuing to incorporate these tools into our classroom routines to support longer periods of sustained attention and participation. Students are working on building their independence by identifying when they need sensory support and choosing the appropriate tool without adult prompting. These skills are directly supporting our current classroom goals, including improving writing stamina, increasing participation in group discussions, and strengthening overall engagement in learning.\r\n\r\nYour support has made a meaningful difference in helping my students feel more confident, regulated, and ready to learn each day. I was able to organize all sensory items using the bags I received which makes it easier for some students to reach directly for a specific bag. For example, squishies, visual stimuli like a lava wand, playdoh tools, etc. Use of the Sensi for my Autistic students have assisted their oral motor abilities, and oral sensory needs which assist co-regulation during sessions. A lot of the time it is so tricky to retrieve these tools at a public school as oral motor abilities and feeding are often overlooked! However, they are the most developmentally crucial and foundational aspects to communication, swallowing, and feeding.
