Having these art supplies in our classroom has helped us in so many ways. We have set up a station in the classroom with art supplies so that students are able to draw their parents and we have noticed that this act reduces the students anxiety from the separation from their parents. Students are now able to sit in the art center and use paper and art to lessen the separation anxiety that is a part of starting a new school in a new setting. Students are able to sit aside from others and ease their fears by keeping a focus on making their parents a drawing. They love going to the art center and proudly take their drawings home to their loved ones.
