The gift of the keyboards made it possible to offer a piano class after school, with an emphasis on inviting choir, band, and orchestra students, as well as all students enrolled in the after-school program. The first 6-week program had 25 students enroll, with 12 of them completing the first course. The piano course includes group and private lessons for 90 minutes twice a week, and at the end of the 6 weeks, students have a recital where they perform a favorite piece for their friends and family. Many students are interested in continuing next year and there is already a waitlist for September's class. Piano lessons are also being given as part of the Choir curriculum on Fridays. Several keyboards are set out at the back of the room for students to explore and practice when they have extra time during the week or during lunch.\r\n\r\n Our school demographics serve 80% socio-economically disadvantaged students. Our school is also on the State and National Schools to Watch list. We strive to inspire the students to excel academically and have opportunities to develop talents and interests beyond the standard academic curriculum. We are pleased to add a piano class to our growing list of free offerings to our students. The student's ability to study piano as a foundation to their music education helps to bridge the equity gap by providing lessons for free and as part of their school's music education. Since the majority of our students would be unable to pay for private lessons or even have access to transportation to go to a lesson, having this provided through the school is indispensable. The after-school class also provides a meal for the students and additional social time with students who have similar interests. The students love the keyboards and are grateful for the opportunity to learn to play the piano.","fullyFundedDate":1772485397721,"projectUrl":"project/music-lessons-for-everyone/10083477/","projectTitle":"Music Lessons for Everyone","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Pearce","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6220585"},{"teacherId":10422103,"projectId":10246229,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your gracious donations.
