Students rotate through small-group stations using the whiteboards, dry erase markers, erasers, alphabet magnets, and manipulatives to build phonics and early reading skills. One especially meaningful moment was watching a student who typically struggles with letter–sound correspondence confidently segment and blend a word using the alphabet magnets. Being able to manipulate letters, erase mistakes, and try again has helped build both skill and confidence.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. They were eager to explore everything and proud to have their own tools to use during reading time. Several students asked if we could begin reading right away. The new resources made literacy instruction feel special and engaging, and the enthusiasm carried through our entire lesson.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue strengthening phonics, decoding, and word-building skills through guided reading groups and independent practice. They will use these materials to build words, write sentences, and apply their skills to reading simple texts with greater accuracy and confidence. With these bins and this shelf, students can access the materials they need quickly and easily. \r\n\r\nWe have filled our bins with all different kinds of math materials - cubes in groups of 10, individual counting cubes, base ten blocks, digit cards, inch tiles, pattern blocks, and more! The clear bins allow students to see all of the materials so they can decide what they need to solve a problem. One student might grab base ten blocks to solve a subtraction problem. Another might choose cubes. Since the containers have lids, they can grab one without worrying about spilling, too!\r\n\r\nThese bins will really make a difference in allowing my second graders to access the materials they need to be successful learners.
