Our school, while it has been improving, has not been getting great scores from state testing. In order to improve our scores, help is needed throughout the school. This project will buy much-needed books for the art room to add an element of reading and writing to art class. By including a reading element to an art project, a sense of wonder and excitement will be added to books for the students. While a better school grade will reflect positively on the community, it is the students' future that we are primarily concerned with. It is up to us as the teachers to assure that our students are ready to proceed on to higher grade levels and eventually function in the real world. Encouraging literacy at a young age improves our students' chances of going to college and getting well-paying jobs.
