It has gone from an overgrown, weedy space, to one which draws students to create. While plants are still getting established with the winter rains, students have created stepping stones, painted rocks, and are building a fairy garden. \r\nAdmittedly, it was tough for the students to see what the possibilities for the garden were when materials arrived. We received edging, materials to create stepping stones, and bulbs. One student who was excited to plant thought we were going to be planting light bulbs. As the space started coming together, students began placing their creations in the garden. They love to come by and walk the path, see their stepping stones, and visit the plants they helped put in. \r\nAs spring rolls around, we will add succulents, more flowering plants, and whatever their imagination comes up with for the fairy garden. We'll create signs encouraging visitors to smell, touch, listen, and look at different parts of the garden. The space will be available for all students to have some quiet, outdoor time during their school day, and hopefully they will be encouraged to nurture and tend the space they helped create.","fullyFundedDate":1759892823390,"projectUrl":"project/a-sensory-garden-for-students/9780528/","projectTitle":"A sensory garden for students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Corrigan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10295646"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_5167","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":400,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":56,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":40,"percentIndigenous":3,"percentLatinx":37,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"14.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":72.9,"schoolId":5167,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Manzanita Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Manzanita Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/rincon-valley-union-school-district/matanzas-elementary-school/5167"}
