The visual arts department at Lawrence High School organized a Hispanic Heritage Month collaboration with the language department to create an event of cultural celebration. The staff and students of the visual art department conducted research into 10 different countries of Hispanic origin and created the front of a restaurant, cart, or food truck that resembled businesses from that country. The staff and students of the language department sourced the food from local food vendors and were able to \"serve\" the food through the windows of the units.\r\n\r\nMy students used the tools from this project to build and assemble the units for the Hispanic Heritage cultural celebration. Many of the students in my class were using drills and other power tools for the first time and have already shown improvement from when they first picked up the tools in early September, until now. The students designed these units themselves after completing independent and collaborative research. I provided them with the skills to turn their 2-dimensional drawings into 3-dimensional structures, and they achieved this. Next, we are working on building part of the set/scenery for the upcoming production, A Bronx Tale: The Musical. We are refining skills in this next project, focusing more on exact measurements and cuts, as well as integrating more tools into our projects. The students will take the strictures they already built and alter them to be applicable in another setting.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping to provide my students with the tools they need to succeed in my class. Many of the skills they learn in Stage Design are transferrable to real life scenarios. I am fortunate to say that students are able to leave my classroom with tool literacy and refined problem-solving skills.","fullyFundedDate":1753670884331,"projectUrl":"project/stage-design-building/9449069/","projectTitle":"Stage Design Building","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McCoy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10072330_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753705423899","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jessica-mccoy"},{"teacherId":9374847,"projectId":8982056,"letterContent":"Thank you so very much for your donations. My students were extremely excited when the shipments came in. It's always a joy to me to be able to supply my students with brand new materials and even those speciality materials they may normally not have access too. I have currently been attempting to get my curriculum away from templates and worksheets to more hands on activities and all these materials are allowing me to do so. From the linoleum cuts to introduce them to the printmaking process; to being able to provide the essential oil paints my AP students needed to continue there Portfolios for college submissions. One student ran out of the basic to make their own skin tone, and their 12 piece portfolio is all self-portraits! With these materials I can continue to have my Painting 1 students learning the basics of Elements of Art and Principles of Design with hands on, creative activities. My Painting 2 students have more materials for their mural projects. Lastly, my AP students have access to a wider range of materials to make their portfolios more unique and their College Board submissions stand out. The new resources have helped some of the students connect with me and other peers during group counseling sessions. The new resources have also made the students' counseling sessions more productive as I have been able to use my white board for SEL curriculum. The new resources have also allowed some of the students to self-regulate, especially the students who like to engage their senses. I do have a specific student that plays with the kinetic sand and the sand tray every time that she comes into my office. \r\n\r\nMany of the students were happy when they first saw the materials and some even made comments about not wanting to leave or coming more often to see their counselor. Right away, many of the students started to use the new resources and each one has been used since we received the new materials. I would love to continue to gather CBT workbooks for the teenagers, especially those who like to do at-home homework. Another project, that I am thinking about, is regarding the school's softball team as I am one of the coaches on varsity. The team needs new equipment for the upcoming season.","fullyFundedDate":1738115291304,"projectUrl":"project/a-welcoming-space-for-those-who-dont-ha/9043281/","projectTitle":"A Welcoming Space For Those Who Don't Have One!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Torres","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9890321"},{"teacherId":9835289,"projectId":8941698,"letterContent":"I am doing amazing now that all my packages have arrived!
