They invited fellow classmates and younger students to visit their student-led event, including presentations of nature-themed songs, art, and more. Students took the lead and used the supplies from this project, recyclable materials from school, and plants grown in our school garden to plan their eco talent show. They created a message that promoted protecting the planet and found ways to promote their message through crafts to have on display: such as tie dye shirts, buttons, ornamental horticulture grown from our school garden, student designed macrame plant holders, and artwork using recyclable materials, like cardboard and plastic water bottles. They inspired their young audience in their school community to take action, while raising awareness for a cause they have shown passion for, protecting the planet. Students also recruited peers to participate in a beach cleanup. They lead their peers in sharing their many reasons for their effort, sharing that beach clean-up is vital for protecting marine life, maintaining healthy coastal ecosystems, and supporting local economies, and so much more. Students planned and organized their beach clean-up day to most efficiently and safely use the materials included in this project, including trash bags, trash pickers, and gloves. Whether it was a stick figure masterpiece or a detailed comic strip, the choice was their's.
