They saw the beautiful new rug spread out and some even asked to lay down on it! They loved reading the letters and matching it with the corresponding pictures (our old rug was just blocks of color). The new rug has instantly become the heart of our learning space. It's the perfect, cozy spot for our daily story time and is where we hold our morning meetings. \r\n\r\nThey also couldn't wait to play with the new hot dog/ice cream stand and they waited in a long line to get a turn to be the worker and the customer. \r\n\r\nThanks to all your generosity, we were able to bring so much new fun to our class. They LOVE pretending to be a \"grown up\" while baking cookies or spinning salads. Both the boys and girls love the new railroad toys also. Some of the girls were hesitant at first, having never played with trains, but they soon overcame that and now love building new tracks for the trains to ride on. \r\nIt was like Christmas morning opening up and playing with all the new toys. Their eyes were wide and their smiles said it all - these are awesome (and durable) toys that will last us for years to come!\r\nIt's always fun to see the different roles they take on in the classroom and with toys like these, it opens up their imaginations even more. Between the two different grants that we were able to secure (Donors Choose being one of them) and additional funding from our PTA, we were able to create a special space that is just for the transitional kindergarteners. There are many kindergarteners that come up to me and ask why this new playground wasn't available last year! Everyone who steps foot into this new area and has a chance to watch the children at play, leaves with a huge smile on their face! \r\n We are able to use our new playground every day. Some children that were a little hesitant to ride the \"big\" tricycles on the \"big\" kindergarten yard are now doing loops around the track daily on our new smaller trikes. The two UTK classrooms love to mix together and play in the playhouses too. Kids that didn't get a chance to play with the bouncy balls before are also trying to dribble! There are so many developmentally friendly toys that they love exploring and playing with. \r\n We will continue to enjoy our new playground daily. When the new batch of UTKers come in the fall, they will also have so much to explore. We will continue to add onto this fabulous, special space!
